The Northern Westchester–Putnam St. Patrick’s Day Parade is one of the region’s most beloved annual traditions, bringing thousands of residents together each spring to celebrate Irish heritage and community pride. Held along Route 6 in Mahopac, the parade has grown into one of the area’s signature events, drawing marching bands, pipe and drum corps, first responders, civic groups, and local organizations for a lively afternoon of music and celebration. The parade typically begins near the corner of Route 6 and Croton Falls Road, with a community kickoff and step-off time set for the early afternoon.
Now in its late 40s as an annual event, the parade has become known not only for its size and spirited turnout, but also for the community traditions that surround it—including recognizing a Grand Marshal each year who represents local leadership and service. Recent honorees include Brendan McDonnell (Grand Marshal for the 47th parade) and Richard Beyrer (Grand Marshal for the 48th), reflecting the parade committee’s long-standing focus on celebrating the people who help strengthen the community year-round.
Today, the Northern Westchester–Putnam St. Patrick’s Day Parade continues as a “rain or shine” celebration that welcomes families, friends, and visitors from across the region. Year after year, it remains a proud local gathering point—honoring Irish culture while spotlighting the organizations, volunteers, and hometown spirit that make Northern Westchester and Putnam County such a strong community.
