Tommy Feighery was born on October 12, 1966, in Long Beach, New York to Tom and Nancy Feighery. In 1971, his parents moved the family to his mother’s native Country Offaly, where they spent the next eight years raising him and his eight siblings. They moved back to the United States in 1979 and settled in Carmel, New York, and Tommy has spent the rest of his life attending school, making lifelong friends, rooting for the long-suffering Buffalo Bills, working, building a business and raising his own family in Putnam County.

As a teenager, Tommy started playing for the West-Put Gaels, beginning a decades-long relationship with the Club as a player, supporter, coach and manager. He played for the team that won the New York U-18 Minor Championship in 1984. Tommy had amazing coaches over the years, former players themselves who built the club and devoted countless hours to training its young athletes. Some of the players he competed with as a teenager remain his best friends to the day. He remembers all his West-Put coaches and teammates with great fondness, especially those who are no longer with us.

Tommy has over 30 years of experience in the building and management of commercial, residential and tunnel construction. He began his career in 1986 for Local 18A in New York City. He then moved on to spend five years with Local 30 Operating Engineers before joining the NYC Sandhogs Local 147. Over his years working with the Sandhogs, Tommy has been a foreman, steward and a member of the Contract Negotiations Committee and also served as a Business Representative for the Local and National chapters.

In recent years, Tommy has worked for Putnam County, beginning as a Project Manager in 2018, where he oversaw various construction projects and managed external contractors. He was named Deputy County Executive in 2020 and over the next two years he spearheaded the County’s Covid response, setting up testing and vaccine clinics and helping local business navigate the pandemic. He also contributed to budget planning, was an integral member of the administration team handling union contracts and directed the renovation of buildings at Tilly Farm and the completion of the Putnam Golf Course renovation. In 2023, Tommy was appointed as Commissioner of the Putnam County Department of Public Works.

For more than 30 years, Tommy owned and operated Fiddler’s Green Pub in Carmel, a gathering place for many, particularly those of Irish descent who regularly stopped in the share a story or pint with friends and watch some Gaelic games. Fidds will always hold a special place in his heart and if those four walls could talk….

Tommy is a member of the Knights of Columbus and has served on its Board. He is a volunteer for the Fraternal Order of Police, Stephen P. Driscoll Lodge #704. Along with serving as a coach for various West-Put Setanta teams throughout the years, he has also volunteered as a CYO basketball coach and was a coach for the Harvey School rugby and basketball teams.

Tommy and his wife Melissa currently reside in Pawling and are parents to five amazing children: Sara (Pat), Danny (Taylor), Aisling, Caity and Packie and two beautiful grandchildren, Frankie and AJ. He treasures spending time with them and sharing in all the events of their lives, both big and small. Tommy is grateful to his parents for all they have given him and honors them by continuing to pass on his love for Ireland and Gaelic games to his children. Unfortunately, he has also passed on his love for the Buffalo Bills. The struggle continues…
